LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Introduction to the strategic approach to make roadsides and medians safe by using countermeasures designed to either keep vehicles on the roadway, provide for a safe recovery if vehicles leave the roadway or reduce the severity of the crash. A detailed explanation of the proper use of energy absorbing poles and longitudinal barriers will be provided to ensure properly tested products designed for the site conditions are used.
